Hi,

still trying to figure out the x-wing. i can't seem to find another logical step here. so if anyone can point me in the right direction, i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance.

Look very carefully at column two. There is a triple which, when you eliminate those candidates from the other cells, allows you to place a number in box 1.

Then look at column 3 in the same way. It will snowball from there.

There is no need to concern yourself with x-wings etc on hard puzzles...they are only necessary for the very hard ones.

This is absolutely correct.

Incidentally, there are two x-wings present in the 2's, but neither of them let you make enough eliminations to proceed any further. paulf2127's hint above is want you will need to take you in the right direction.

i might need a little less subtle hint. i'm not quite sure what is meant by triple. i did notice the x-wings for the 2 and agree that it didn't help me any, but i can't seem to figure out what i need to look for in column 2.
