I have no idea where you get the format you are using.

This format is better at this site.

Code: Select all
..5879...
8..36..17
.3..1...8
.7..5....
52..9..71
....8..4.
6.2.4..93
.5.938.62
...1267..

The row 2 missings can only be 2459.

In box one, row 2, 5s and 2s are prohibited.

The 2 other cells in row 2 must be 25.

Code: Select all
.--------Box1------------.------------------------.--------Box3------------.
| 12      16      5      | 8       7       9      | 2346    23      46     |
| 8       49      49     | 3       6       25     | 25      1       7      |
| 27      3       67     | 245     1       245    | 24569   25      8      |
:------------------------+------------------------+------------------------:
| 1349    7       134689 | 246     5       1234   | 23689   238     69     |
| 5       2       3468   | 46      9       34     | 368     7       1      |
| 139     169     1369   | 267     8       1237   | 23569   4       569    |
:------------------------+------------------------+------------------------:
| 6       18      2      | 57      4       57     | 158     9       3      |
| 147     5       147    | 9       3       8      | 14      6       2      |
| 349     489     3489   | 1       2       6      | 7       58      45     |
'------------------------'------------------------'------------------------'

Now look at box 3.

What is the only cell left for 9?

Hi Wintder,
Thanks for the help. It all fell into place after using your advice on row 2!
I was deep into sword fish, xwing, etc when clearly I couldn't see the wood for the trees.

I will adhere to the preferred format in future.

Thanks again!
