ronk wrote:re'born, you have an uncanny ability to spot some tricky deductions. Even with the details of your post, it took me a long time to realize the underlying reason for the deduction is ...

{BUG-Lite r147c78: r4c7=9|1=r1c7}=7=r1c8-7-r4c8-3-r4c7, implies r4c7<>3

Then a BUG-Lite+2 "Type 3" in r46c347 remains ... where "Type 3" is meant in the same sense as UR Type 3.

Thank you ronk. You were able to discover how I first solved it. Of course eliminating the 3 from r4c7 can be done independently of the other BUG-lite pattern. I ended up combining them into one step because I saw that r4c7<>3 isn't "needed" to reduce the puzzle to singles. My other motivation was to feel a little bit like Carcul, if only for a moment. Unfortunately, my bubble burst when I tried to write up one chain for the whole deduction.

Still, maybe only one big fishy, finned at that.

Code: Select all
. . .|. . .|. 2 .
1 5 .|. . .|3 . .
. 6 .|3 . .|. 1 9
-----+-----+-----
7 . .|5 3 .|. 4 .
. . .|1 . 7|. . .
. 3 .|. 6 9|. . 7
-----+-----+-----
4 9 .|. . 5|. 6 .
. . 6|. . .|. 9 1
. 1 .|. . .|. . .

I'm still looking for the one big finned fishy that will solve it. However, it will solve with one 2-string kite, one remote naked pair and one xy-wing.

The sword is on 2s, the fin is r9c9.

It isn't that it solves it, it is available.:D

I see big fish, SE sees minnows.

Somewhere in between, I suspect!

Code: Select all
. . .|. 1 .|8 . 4
7 . 4|. . 2|. . .
. 5 .|. 3 .|2 . .
-----+-----+-----
6 3 .|. . 5|. . .
. 4 5|2 . 8|3 6 .
. . .|3 . .|. 5 8
-----+-----+-----
. . 3|. 2 .|. 8 .
. . .|7 . .|4 . 3
4 . 7|. 5 .|. . .
