.4.3.528......7.9......6.1.873129564951764328.6.538179..685..41...67..52..594..3.

One possible cause is that not all relevant moves are set in the Solver. Go to Edit / Preferences ... / Solver Tab and make sure that as many moves as possible are checked.

The finish was not that easy and involved a Type 4 UR, Sue de Coq, XY Chain and XY Wing. If not all these are set a solution may not be possible. Play it safe and just check everything.

I think a puzzle of this degree of difficulty should be solved by app, not by hands. Though this puzzle's chain is very short.

Who would enjoy that? The app?

not by hands.

I agree. A brain is a better solving tool.

Btw, here's my manually cerebrally found solution:

Code: Select all
.---------------------.------------.---------------.
| ae1(6)   4     79   | 3   19  5  | 2    8    7-6 |
|   12356  1238  28   | 24  18  7  | 46   9    35  |
|   235    2389  2789 | 24  89  6  | 47   1    35  |
:---------------------+------------+---------------:
|   8      7     3    | 1   2   9  | 5    6    4   |
|   9      5     1    | 7   6   4  | 3    2    8   |
|  d24     6     24   | 5   3   8  | 1    7    9   |
:---------------------+------------+---------------:
|   237    239   6    | 8   5   23 | 79   4    1   |
|  e134    1389  489  | 6   7  d13 | 89   5    2   |
| bc127    128   5    | 9   4  c12 | 678  3  a(6)7 |
'---------------------'------------'---------------'

(6=17)r1c1,r9c9 - (1|7)r9c1 = (2,1)r9c16 - (2|1=43)r6c1,r8c6 - (4|3=16)r81c1 => -6 r1c9; stte

Or with three simple steps: Show
Code: Select all
.---------------------.------------.-------------.
|  16      4     79   | 3   19  5  | 2    8   67 |
| *1256-3  1238  28   | 24  18  7  | 46   9  *35 |
| *25-3    2389  2789 | 24  89  6  | 47   1  *35 |
:---------------------+------------+-------------:
|  8       7     3    | 1   2   9  | 5    6   4  |
|  9       5     1    | 7   6   4  | 3    2   8  |
|  24      6     24   | 5   3   8  | 1    7   9  |
:---------------------+------------+-------------:
|  237     239   6    | 8   5   23 | 79   4   1  |
|  134     1389  489  | 6   7   13 | 89   5   2  |
|  127     128   5    | 9   4   12 | 678  3   67 |
'---------------------'------------'-------------'

Step 1: UR(35)r23c19 Type 4: -3 r23c1

Code: Select all
.--------------------.---------------.-------------.
|   16    4     79   |   3    19  5  |  2    8  67 |
|  b1256  1238  28   |   24   18  7  | b46   9  35 |
| a(5)-2  2389  2789 | c(2)4  89  6  | c47   1  35 |
:--------------------+---------------+-------------:
|   8     7     3    |   1    2   9  |  5    6  4  |
|   9     5     1    |   7    6   4  |  3    2  8  |
|   24    6     24   |   5    3   8  |  1    7  9  |
:--------------------+---------------+-------------:
|   237   29    6    |   8    5   23 |  79   4  1  |
|   134   189   489  |   6    7   13 |  89   5  2  |
|   127   128   5    |   9    4   12 |  678  3  67 |
'--------------------'---------------'-------------'

Step 2: (5)r3c1 = (56-4)r2c17 = (42)r3c74 => -2 r3c1

Code: Select all
.-------------------.------------.----------------.
|  16     4    79   | 3   19  5  |   2     8  67  |
|  16     3    28   | 24  18  7  |   46    9  5   |
|  5      289  2789 | 24  89  6  |   47    1  3   |
:-------------------+------------+----------------:
|  8      7    3    | 1   2   9  |   5     6  4   |
|  9      5    1    | 7   6   4  |   3     2  8   |
|  24     6    24   | 5   3   8  |   1     7  9   |
:-------------------+------------+----------------:
|  23-7  b29   6    | 8   5   23 | b(7)9   4  1   |
|  34     189  489  | 6   7   13 |   89    5  2   |
| a2(7)   128  5    | 9   4   12 |   68-7  3  6-7 |
'-------------------'------------'----------------'

Step 3: XY-Wing: (7=2)r9c1 - (2=97)r7c27 => -7 r7c1,r9c79; stte
-SpAce-: Show
Code: Select all
   *             |    |               |    |    *
        *        |=()=|    /  _  \    |=()=|               *
            *    |    |   |-=( )=-|   |    |      *
     *                     \  ¯  /                   *
