Dan, Congratulations for your great solution. It took me a while to get my head around it. Much better than boring chains.
The way I see it is if (9)r8c3 is true, then (9)r8c46 are false and the Xwing is true
If (9)r8c3 is false, then (9)r9c4 is true and (9)r8c46 are again false and the Xwing is true.
So either way, the 9s can go from r8c46 and r459c9.
