I don't think so, Dan. The first term, as you've written it above, says that if neither 3 nor 7 is true in the set ((3 or 7) is false), then the set must contain a 6. It's not possible for neither three nor seven to be true, as that would leave only 2 candidates in a 3 cell set. However, if either 3 is false or 7 is false ((3 and 7) is false), then the set must contain a 6. Hence, the & . Your chain overall is saying if we don't have both 3 and 7 in the first set then we do have both 3 and 7 in the second set. That assures your deletions.

Here is what confuses me.

[(3|7=6)r1c289

This tells me if 3 or 7 is missing in r1c289 then a 6 must be present.

3 and 7 missing is meaningless since one of the must be present along with the 2 and 6

then if a 6 is present in r1c289 must have a 3 and 7 along with a 2 in r3c169

backwards it works if you follow = signs with & and - signs with |.

For this reason I normally leave these signs out making the notation

[(37=6)r1c289-(6=37)r3c169]-3r3c8,-7r1c4; ste

works both ways

Clear as mud ;o(

And there's the problem. In the somewhat odd notation that we use for strong length, term1 = term2 means that if term1 is false then term2 is true.

Here term1 is 3|7, which means 3 or 7. It's true if either 3 or 7 is true. For it to be false, neither 3 nor 7 would be true. You want it to say the if either 3 or 7 is missing, then.... That means that they're not both true, so (3 AND 7) would be false. We write (3 AND 7) as 3&7 (or, often, just 37). So to say what you want to say, you write (3&7=6)r1c289.

3 and 7 missing is meaningless since one of the must be present along with the 2 and 6

Exactly, and 3|7 being false means both are missing. Why would you write something that's meaningless?

For this reason I normally leave these signs out making the notation

[(37=6)r1c289-(6=37)r3c169]-3r3c8,-7r1c4; ste

Actually that would have been fine, since 37 is generally taken to mean 3&7. However, I sometimes like to include it for clarity.
