Explain notation?

Postby LangPol » Sat Apr 29, 2006 4:37 pm

Just started reading posts, but haven't fully figured out the entire langauge, e.g., [r5c4]-1-[almost x-wing:r2c2|r2c4|r4c2|r4c4]=1=[r4c5|r4c6]-1-[r5c4] => r5c4<>1. Anyone have a BNF (or even a general description)?

I would like a more general description. Alas, wickpedia hints that there is no consensus. <sigh>

A block is an area, or grid, or sub-grid. And a bunch more. <sigh>

You are right that there is no formal concensus for terminology. These two links might help you:

A dictionary of terms used at this site can be found at http://vanhegan.net/sudoku/dictionary.php
A short list of terms that should be used at this site is found at http://b.wizbit.be/Basic%20terms.html

For more on nice loops, Jeff's post is excellent.
