Easy Extremes

Postby gurth » Wed Nov 12, 2014 12:51 pm

There used to be a thread on these but I can't find it.
"Extreme" refers to what Simple Sodoku calls 'extreme'. Using XY-wing and Multiple Colours as their hardest techniques. I enjoy doing these puzzles dished up by the SS program, especially when they turn out to be VERY easy. One can also cheat by using techniques which are not covered by SS but can be employed very easily. For instance, sometimes a chain with 4 members can appear glaringly obvious - so why not use it?
Here's an 'extreme' I just did, if you like these:
Code: Select all

 |...|.1.|2..|
 |4..|..8|.57|

 |54.|78.|...|

 |8.9|...|..5|
 |76.|8..|..2|
 |..3|.4.|...|

 | 1      25789  258    | 2459   257    2579   | 6      489    3      |

 | 23     1238   128    | 125    9      6      | 138    7      4      |
 | 269    1289   7      | 3      2      4      | 5      12689  1689   |
 | 5      4      126    | 7      8      12     | 139    12369  169    |
 |----------------------+----------------------+----------------------|
 | 8      12     9      | 126    2367   1237   | 1347   1346   5      |
 | 7      6      145    | 8      35     1359   | 1349   1349   2      |
 | 2      125    3      | 12569  4      12579  | 1789   1689   1689   |
 *--------------------------------------------------------------------*

Too easy? I do these 'extremes' because sometimes they beat me, usually because of something I should have spotted but missed. Maybe the fun is spoilt if you know it's too easy...

XY Wing (5=7) r3c5 - (7=3) r1c6 - (3=5) r8c6 => - 5 r3c6, r8c5; stte

Your PM indicates the puzzle status after a basic clue markoff. Several singles and a locked pair lead to my PM.

Ha ha, you played it honest! When I got as far as your diagram I couldn't resist the UR and pounced on the 2 at r3c4, leaving only singles after that.
