First shot:
Code: Select all
 . 1 . 7 3 . 2 5 8
 7 5 . 6 8 . . . .
 8 . . . . . . . 7
 . . 7 . . . . . 2
 9 3 5 . 2 7 . 4 .
 . 4 . . 6 . 3 . .
 . . . 4 . . 1 . 5
 5 8 . . 7 . . 2 .
 3 . . . . 6 . . .

No. of givens =  32 (not possible to add zeros)

Watch this space.

Well, yes. My goal was to pack in as many of the digits as possible. Even with fewer, the puzzles remain simple, as here:
Code: Select all
 1 . 7 . . . 3 2 5
 8 . . . . . . . 7
 . . . . . 5 . 6 8
 . . . 8 7 . . . .
 7 2 9 . . . . 3 .
 . . 5 2 . . 7 4 .
 . . . . 4 6 . . 3
 . 4 . . . . 1 5 .
 5 . . . 8 . . . .

No. of givens =  28, can add 7r9c8, cannot add zeros

Seems to be an inherent property of this series of digits.
Sorry to disappoint you.

OK then, how about the Golden Ratio = 1.6180339887 4989484820 4586834365 6381177203 0917980576 2862135448 6227052604 6281890244 9707207204 1893911374 8475408807 5386891752 1266338622 (approximately).

or the largest known prime number. The record is currently held by 2^ (82,589,933) − 1 with 24,862,048 digits, found by GIMPS in December 2018. Its value is:

GR is hopeless. It cannot have more than 26 clues, and the puzzle with the least number of solutions was;
Code: Select all
 . . . 1 . . . 6 .
 . 1 8 . . . . 3 .
 . . . 3 . 9 . 8 .
 8 . . . 7 . 4 . .
 . . . . . . . 9 8
 . 9 4 8 . . . . .
 . . . . 4 . 8 2 .
 4 . 5 . 8 . 6 . .
 . 8 3 . . . . 4 .

No. of givens =  26

brute found 98 solution(s)

The prime I'll not even try, look at those strings of repeating digits at the beginning.

Regards,

Mike

Thanks for the suggestion, but this becoming tedious. Maybe someone else would like to give it a try.

You should use the Champernowne constant C10 to be sure that any grid or any puzzle is hidden somewhere in its decimals. :)
