Well ... they could be worth revisiting - as we are certainly ? x100 better than we were !

I am beginning to think that its all down to the sheer number of puzzles per pattern .... and the fact that singles are less likely with non horiz/vert clues in a individual box.
There will obviously be less puzzles with 20 clues than 25

Well .... I should perhaps have realized !

These 29 clue patterns, with 5 clues in one of the boxes - "arranged diagonally"- many will be isomorphic ....

In a while I will remove clues from these and see how many patterns we have which are symmetrical 23 clues with box dist of 533222222

here are 13 ED patterns - with a symetrical pattern with a box with 5 clues - poss of interest -and thats all I got of these !

This pattern .... with 533332222 ...there were 411 ED patterns which were symmetrical ...
probably patterns which might be fruitful would have these clues in boxes ....

a small reduction in diagonality -- from 9 boxes to 8 -- makes a small difference, which is hard to prove;

but a drastic reduction -- from 9 boxes (game 57) to just 3 (game 49) -- makes a huge difference

    and with only 20 givens -- we may be able to generate all puzzles (for those 2 games) and thus get the proof:
    • # 57 has a "low" number of puzzles,
    • # 49 has a very low number of puzzles
    (based on one small experiment)

pattern # 289 has turned out to be a riddle for you

with high diagonality,
i would've guessed we'd get some 10.* goodies

but finding 9.* here
seems as challenging as 10.* in many other patterns

This pattern seems to have puzzles with high ratings .....

you posted a puzzle with no symmetry --
can't play in the Patterns Game.

    game 299 has this distribution of givens in boxes;
    i seem to remember this
    from some earlier game too,
    maybe someone can find it---

but the puzzle can be morphed to a symmetrical pattern, and there are 2 ways to have the 6 clue pattern in box 1 as patrice says.
