PS Leren, not that it matters, but did you run the X-wing of 4s first?

What am I doing wrong? It must be some kind of rookie error.
Playing around with the 49 DP in r45c28.

In c2, r4c2 must be=6.
In r45c8 I'm getting a contradiction. If I say either of the two cells must be=5, then r6c8=9. But if I treat those cells as if it were a Type 4 with an SL on 4, then the 5s come out, leaving r6c8=5. Obviously I can't treat the two cells as a Type 4, but I don't know why.

I don't understand your reference to r4c2 being a 6, but if it isn't then you do have a Type 4. However, it's the 9's that come out, not the 5's.

I don't see a Type 4 DP (49) r45c28 because of the 6 in r4c2. There are Hidden DP (49) moves using those cells that => r4c8 <> 9 and r4c2 <> 9, because of the XWing of 4's in the DP cells, 2 candidates in r5c2 and the grouped S/L on 9
in Row 5. If there were no 6 in r4c2 then a Type 4 DP would eliminate 9 r45c8, not 5 r45c8, leaving r6c8 = 9. Perhaps this is your problem.

Have a look at this link for a discussion of Type 4 UR's http://hodoku.sourceforge.net/en/tech_ur.php#u4

Hope this helps, Leren

Thanks Steve and Leren. Of course in c8 the 9s would come out. I had another senior moment, thinking like it was 45 DP even though it's a 49.

Identical with just a tiny difference in notation.
