dichroism:

1. A property of a uniaxial crystal, such as tourmaline, of showing a perceptible difference in colour when viewed along two different axes in transmitted white light.
2. A property of certain solutions as a result of which the wavelength (colour) of the light transmitted depends on the concentration of the solution and the length of the path of the light within the solution.

I think Dan was suggesting that I should view the puzzle in more than one way, to bring out it's different properties - which is why I posted 2 different solutions.

I did it the old-fashioned way in lieu of searching for chains.

1) X-Wing (8), c37
2) XY-Wing (38-2), pivot r8c1

It's said that if you use a new word in a sentence three times it becomes part of your vocabulary. ;)

Do you really think he's that subtle?

In keeping with the fun aspect of the daily d word and my warped sense of humor I try to "read" an implied hint into it and find a solution to suit.
