Clarification of WXYZ wing

Postby tonyjer » Sun May 20, 2007 8:22 am

Hi

Can you help me out on the above.

From the example below can you establish WXYZ on 2359 which eliminates 3 in C4? (and a 2 if there was one in the that cell) Its just that I know there are caveats when the outlier cells contain pairs etc.

Thanks for your time. (sorry about the quality of the grid)

Tony

Code: Select all
   1   2   3   4   5   6   7   8   9
A   3459   245   3457   1   2359   279   2369   8   36
B   6   12   13   4   239   8   1239   5   7
C   1359   8   1357   37   2359   6   129   4   239

This is a more properly aligned text format of your band:
Code: Select all
 3459  245  3457 | 1   2359  279 | 2369  8  36
 6     12   13   | 4   239   8   | 1239  5  7
 1359  8    1357 | 37  2359  6   | 129   4  239

I don't think you can validly eliminate 3 form c4 from this information.

Alternatively, try to load this grid into Simple Sudoku:
Code: Select all
 *---------------------------------------------------------------------------------*
 | 3459    245     3457     | 1       2359     279     | 2369     8      36        |
 | 6       12      13       | 4       239      8       | 1239     5      7         |
 | 1359    8       1357     | 37      2359     6       | 129      4      239       |
 |--------------------------+--------------------------+---------------------------|
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 |--------------------------+--------------------------+---------------------------|
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 | 1234578 1345679 12345689 | 2356789 12346789 1234579 | 23456789 123679 12345689  |
 *---------------------------------------------------------------------------------*

If you put 3 into r3c4, there is no immediate contradiction resulted. So I don't think you can make that elimination.

If you have a full grid where you suspect that elimination can be made, please post it.

Clarification of WXYZeeeee rule

Postby tonyjer » Sun May 20, 2007 4:45 pm

Thanks for your help. I honestly thought that the 3 in C4 was vulnerable cos it could "see" all 4 cells of the naked quad 2359 and each of these cells contain a 3.

I thought that the wisdom on WXYZeee was that you just had to watch for naked pairs etc in the outliers.

Thanks again.
