The popular Linux magazine, Linux Format are offering a share of £500 for a Sudoku solving/generating program.
What do they want?
They want a nice, flashy, GUI-driven app that can do the following:
* Display Sudoku puzzles of varying formats - 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 minimum
* Create a standard file format, preferably XML or text-based, for storing and exchanging files
* Solve puzzles
* Generate new puzzles
* Make sure solutions are unique
* Program must be released under an open source licence, preferably the GPL, but any licence that complies with the Open Source Initiative will do.
Bonus points awarded for programs that:
* Look good
* Are cross-platform
* Solve puzzles quickly
* Solve puzzles elegantly (not just brute force)
* Can grade puzzles (as easy, medium, difficult)
* Are easy to install and build
The prizes:
* 1st prize - £300
* 2nd prize - £150
* 3rd prize - £50
