Big problem with most sudoku apps

Postby Stockyard Channing » Wed Jun 24, 2015 8:11 pm

Hi Everyone

Been playing for about 10 years, off and on.

Have iPhone and scoured App Store to find best app. Tried about a dozen so far but they all have the same fatal weakness. You are unable to highlight candidates to show patterns etc. Am I missing something here.

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Thanks for your time.

My app (http://www.enjoysudoku.com) supports that, though it is easy to miss in a casual examination. You need to turn on Manual Coloring on the Settings/Preference page to enable that feature. Having it turned on by default was causing way too much confusion, but it is still there for the intrepid.

Many thanks. Will give it a try.

Still think it's odd that there are 1000s of Sudoku apps and most let you enter candidates. However none that I tried let you highlight individual candidates when it's such a basic requirement. Isn't it?

For the kind of puzzles we work on here, yes it is fairly basic. But keep in mind that most newspaper puzzles (the only puzzles most people see) don't even require the use of pencil marks, let alone some way to color/mark them.

Thanks. Yes I did consider that but thought the sheer volume of puzzles would provide a few for the more discerning.

Thanks again.

Hi again

Separate query related to use of the app. Can you insert your own puzzle? Ask this as most of featured games pretty straightforward.

Also as accessing puzzles from your server assume this would use data unless via wifi??

Thanks again

The paid version supports entering your own puzzles. Look for Enter Puzzle on the main menu.

The paid version also includes an option to disable all network usage. Look for Network Access: on the in app settings.
