Here's another one that Pappocom labeled as solvable, but unfair. I assume it can be solved using more advanced techniques than I possess. Here come my latest meager attempts at posting grids:

Code: Select all
---  6-2  -8-
---  ---  -15
4-3  -1-  ---

8--  --7  --4
--1  -2-  6--
7--  9--  --2

---  -3-  8-7
16-  ---  ---
-7-  4-8  ---

Hey, it looks a bit better than my usual but now I have to know what should be used to separate boxes? I used cap I but it's ugly.

Oh yeah, any suggestions on solving this beast?

Code: Select all
59 1    579 I 6   459 2  I 3479 8    39
6  289  279 I 78  49  3  I 2479 1    5
4  2589 3   I 78  1   59 I 279  29   6

8  235  256 I 135 56  7  I 19   39   4
59 359  1   I 35  2   4  I 6    7    8
7  34   46  I 9   8   16 I 15   35   2

2  459  459 I 15  3   16 I 8    569  7
1  6    8   I 2   7   59 I 359  4    39
3  7    59  I 4   569 8  I 259  2569 1

This is as close as I could get to your candidate list - can you explain how you got rid of the 5s in r4c7/8 and r6c2/3?

Code: Select all
 *-----------*
 |.1.|6.2|.8.|
 |6..|..3|.15|
 |4.3|.1.|..6|
 |---+---+---|
 |8..|..7|..4|
 |..1|.24|678|
 |7..|98.|..2|
 |---+---+---|
 |2..|.3.|8.7|
 |168|27.|.4.|
 |37.|4.8|..1|
 *-----------*

 *-----------------------------------------------------------*
 | 59    1     579   | 6     459   2     | 3479  8     39    |
 | 6     289   279   | 78    49    3     | 2479  1     5     |
 | 4     2589  3     | 78    1     59    | 279   29    6     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 8     235   256   | 135   56    7     | 159   359   4     |
 | 59    359   1     | 35    2     4     | 6     7     8     |
 | 7     345   456   | 9     8     16    | 15    35    2     |
 |-------------------+-------------------+-------------------|
 | 2     459   459   | 15    3     16    | 8     569   7     |
 | 1     6     8     | 2     7     59    | 359   4     39    |
 | 3     7     59    | 4     569   8     | 259   2569  1     |
 *-----------------------------------------------------------*

Simple Sudoku gives the next step as removing 9 from r1c5, then r3c7 and r3c8 using multiple colours - a technique too advanced for me I'm afraid.

As far as your formatting, that's fine - you could leave out the Is altogether as they just seem to get in the way a bit. Use the "pipe" symbol | instead if you want to separate the boxes. At Angus J's homepage you can download a free Sudoku program that makes formatting for posting almost too easy (you sometimes DO have to edit if there are enough candidates to make it wrap over two lines)

Shazbot, I hope this is valid, but I saw an x-y wing of 1,6 in box 5 and 1,5 in box 6. Next I used y-z in row 4, box 5 to eliminate 5s in row 4 box 6. It seems it should work since 5 has to be in either row 6, box 6 or row 4, box 5.

Once is not enough, we need a lot more from this great thing.
