Shouldn't it be in your notation
2r7c2=2r8c1-(2=9)r3c1,r1c3 - (9=4)r7c3 - (4=2)r7c24, loop => r8c1, r7c6,r1c2<>2 ?
You are confusing me.

Nice one SteveC.

Do you hear alarm bells ringing?
Any house left without a particular candidate, or more that one of a particular candidate forced into a house?

I think this pincer attack is OK.

Using most of Phil's cells, but expressed (hopefully) as a finned 1-Fish...
(*) marks a covered base cell, (p) marks a potential elimination, and (@) marks a remote fin.

Do you hear alarm bells ringing?

No doubt, that it is ok.
Any house left without a particular candidate, or more that one of a particular candidate forced into a house?

Sorry, i can't get any sense out of that.

So why did you you hear alarm bells ringing with my chain, which logically is exactly the same construct ?
Trivial stream
(7)r5c9 - (7)r1c9
Second stream
(7=8)r456c9 - r8c9 = r8c7 - (8=7)r1c7 - (7)r1c9
=> r1c9<>7

But stop and look...
(7=8)r456c9 - r8c9 = r8c7 - (8=7)r1c7 - (7)r1c9
There are now no sevens in column 9.
Alarm bells are ringing. :o

So you would here alarm bells ringing in your chain, if you write it from right to left:
(2=4)r7c24 - (4=9)r7c3 - (9=2)r3c1,r1c3 => r1c2<>2

Trivial: 2r7c2 - 2r1c2
Second: (2=4)r7c24 - (4=9)r7c3 - (9=2)r3c1,r1c3 - 2r1c2

But stop and look...
(2=4)r7c24 - (4=9)r7c3 - (9=2)r3c1,r1c3 - 2r1c2
There are no 2's in column 2 !!
Alarm bells are ringing. :o

Because none of the cells in column 9 would contain a 7.

But I didn't write it from right to left.

So you cannot formulate the same chain from the other side with your notation ??? If 2 not in r7c24, then it must be in r3c1 ? It is logically exactly the same (A->B <=> not B -> not A).
So how could one direction be correct and the other not ? That's nonsense.

Your "alarm bell ringing" says nothing else than: IF 7 not in r5c9, THEN you would not have a 7 in c9. The conclusion of the chain was that 7 can't be in r1c7. Because of the strong link it must be in r5c9 then. There is no conflict at all. If there were no strong link, you would have left 7's in c9.

PS: Don't expect any response by me in the next 2 weeks. I'll save the Greek by enjoying the island.
