XYZ Wing with pincer transport => - 5 r45c9, r5c5; stte

Leren

Nice, Leren. I can follow it up to a point,assuming the wing is hinged in r5c8 and the 5 in r8c8 is transported to r1c9. Why is there a direct elimination in r5c5? That 5 falls immediately once the other eliminations are applied but I can't understand it as a direct.

Hi Marty,

The XYZ Wing basic premise is that at least one of r5c78 or r8c8 must be 5, otherwise the pivot cell r5c8 would be empty. By transporting the 5 in r8c8 to r5c7, it means that one of r5c78 must be 5 (that's the whole point of the transport - reduce the number of 5's that must be True). So any 5 that can be seen by both r5c78 must be False, including the 5 in r5c5.

BTW XYZ Wings don't seem to be easily explainable in terms of Eureka notation, so I didn't bother trying.

Of course, there has to be something that I don't understand. You transported from one pincer cell to another, thus reducing the number of pincers from 3 to 2. But it's OK, we can let it go. :)

Leren, nice solution, but what's wrong with (5=3)r5c7* - (3=1)r9c7,r8c8 - (13=5)r5c8* ?

Hi Phil, that seems to solve the Eureka notation problem, but it just looks like a Type 1 AIC with memory, so the original XYZ with transport idea seems superfluous - maybe they are always explainable in this way.

Cheers, Leren
