I had to rack my brain to catch this almost XY-wing !
I was blinded by the other one (158)r8c34,r9c2: XY-wing == (9)r8c3 - (9=571)b8p246 => -1 r9c4; ste

Nice variation Steve, I like it !

Thanks. Two almost X-Y wings! Who'd a thunk it?

Technically yours is actually an almost-almost XY-Wing (which doesn't make it any less nice, more like the opposite) :) Here's one more variant of the theme:

WXYZ-Wing(1589)r8c346,r9c2 = (751)b8p624 => -1 r9c4; stte

Or explicitly:

[(18)b7p86 = (591)r8c346] = (751)b8p624 => -1 r9c4; stte

Btw, I don't think the '==' is needed or even appropriate either way (or with any almost-patterns). What we have is normal strong links between two nodes, directly observable in the grid. Nothing derived there, even if the nodes are more complex than usual. I think the '==' is for situations where the strong link is due to a pre-calculation or a catalyst (such as a DP), which requires an explanation. Using it for other non-native (but still direct) links dilutes that more valuable meaning without any benefits. In fact, it's a bit confusing, because it implies there's a more complicated reason (like a DP) for the link (and there could be).

Yes, I wondered about that. You're right.
