Hi, Bat. I don't know what other opinions you'll get, but I find your chain a bit confusing. I'd have written:

(3=7)r5c2 - r5c1 = (7)r1c1 - (7=63)r13c3 => -3 r3c2; stte

Maybe, but there's no ambiguity imo. :)
Three candidates forced into three cells.
=(367)r1c13,r3c3
The 3 in box 1 is in either r1c1 or r1c3 or r3c3 (work it out for yourself which one, but it's not important).

Speaking of confusion, a state I'm always in, I don't see a choice for 3 in r1c1 and r1c3. I was under the impression that ALS's had to be N candidates in N-1 cells, but you're saying "Three candidates forced into three cells." Another thing and I was taken to task over this, but I was told that the lead-in candidate had to see all the cells of that value within the ALS. The lead-in candidate is 7 and it sees only the 7 in in r1c1 and not the one in r1c3.

Interesting.

Initially, I was inclined to agree with SteveG48 that your notation should have matched what he proposed. That would have been the traditional way of expressing the logic.

Then, I realized that you were taking advantage of the fact that there is only one way to place <367> in your three cells in [box 1]. This took me back to a disagreement on whether a specific form of ALS was truely an ALS ... or simply a succession of forcing net assignments.

Interesting!

Marty, bat999's term is not an ALS.

It was a wise person (Abe Lincoln) who said, "'tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. OK, Danny, I see. I have more to say but I'll remain silent and be thought a fool.

Unfortunately, I've already opened my mouth ... and so everyone now knows. _ :lol: _
