Hi Yugal,

Welcome to the Sudoku Player's Forum.

If the solver you downloaded was Simple Sudoku, then it's complaining that the givens are placed such that they do not conform to the rotational symmetry expected of most published sudoku puzzles. If you turn the puzzle 180 degrees, it should "look" the same in terms of where the givens are positioned.

If you copy/paste a puzzle directly into Simple Sudoku, it doesn't complain, so I'm assuming you are entering the puzzle manually.

Copy and paste this puzzle (Royle17 #1):
Code: Select all
000000010400000000020000000000050407008000300001090000300400200050100000000806000

If you enter it manually, you'll get the message that this puzzle is not symmetrical do you want to proceed? You can safely answer yes. SS won't let you enter an invalid puzzle and it will query you if there are multiple solutions while entering manually. I don't know about pasting an invalid PM or puzzle.

If you are using some other solver, it probably is executing a similar test after manually entering the givens.

Cheers,
Paul

Symmetry in most instances (especially with computer solvers) refers to symmetry of the clues around an a specific axis (line or point)

[Edit: I don't use a spelling checker. Even if I did, the spelling of access was correct:D . Also some special thanks to the BOLD fairy]

For sudoku terms, the place to look is sudopedia.
