Can't install

Postby Guest » Thu Mar 10, 2005 11:10 pm

16 Bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
Running WinXP Pro SP2

Strange. It works for me under Win2K Pro and WinXP Pro SP2.

And it certainly isn't 16 bit, nor a system file. And what's Autoexec.NT got to do with it?

Is this a problem from the installer? Or from the program once installed?

OK, it looks like the installer is a 16-bit application - so it will work just about everywhere - but his can give problems on some XP SP2 systems.

See http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/4-131.html and http://www.amigaforever.com/kb/6-104.html for more information.

For those who experience installation problems, there's a zip file containing just the application - no installer needed, just run it.

Installation problems on XPSP2

Postby Guest » Mon Mar 14, 2005 5:10 pm

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

OK it does look like it is an SP2 error. I had the problem also with Vs6sp6B

The recommendation is to replace autoexec.nt from the backup. I discovered that there was no autoexec.nt in my C:\WINDOWS\system32 so I copied the one in from C:\WINDOWS\repair to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and now everything seems to work OK.

Thanks Microsoft.

OK, I got greedy. It's no longer free. but is now "affordable", "cheap", "inexpensive", or any other euphemism for the fact that you have to pay something.

(I wanted to edit the title of this thread but don't get the option - sorry)
