A grid with puzzles with several ratings?

Postby daveisme » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:59 am

Hi, I just come across this site:
http://www.subundle.com/
they publish grids with multiple sudoku puzzles in a single grid.
Claiming the grids have several difficult ratings in them.
I played a couple but can't really knows the ratings are correct.
Any one have any idea how to verify it?
Or anybody knows a good site to verify the ratings of sudoku puzzles?
Sorry, I don't know how to post their game here.

so i visited SuBundle.com
and looked at today's puzzle --

Code: Select all
 . . 9 | 3 . 8 | . . .
 . . . | . . 1 | 2 . .
 . 8 . | . 6 . | . . .
-------+-------+------
 . 4 3 | . . . | 9 2 .
 . . 8 | _ . . | . . 6
 6 5 . | . 8 . | . 7 .
-------+-------+------
 1 . 7 | . 5 3 | . . .
 . 3 5 | 6 . . | . . .
 . . . | . . . | 8 . .

..93.8........12...8..6.....43...92...82....665..8..7.1.7.53....356...........8..
..93.8........12...8..6.....43...92...84....665..8..7.1.7.53....356...........8..
..93.8........12...8..6.....43...92...87....665..8..7.1.7.53....356...........8..

-- where r5c4 = 2,4,7 makes the 3 puzzles of increasing difficulty -- true
    for difficulty-ratings,
many now use Nicolas Juillerat's Sudoku Explainer

e.g. for the above 3 puzzles,
    the ratings are --
    • 1.2
    • 2.0
    • 6.6

Thanks.
I don't know how useful their games to computer-sudoku players.
But, it looks awful good idea for newspapers or magazines to print.
If their ratings are correct.

    difficulty-ratings are always a problem---
what i was wondering is, how can they justify a patent for something which was discussed in our Forum in 2006
on pages 4-5 of that discussion,
you can see examples of 7-puzzles-in-1
    ( admittedly without any difficulty-ratings )

I don't know about patent laws.
But these multiple games in one grids sure is good news
for sudoku-players, newspapers and magazines.
Why did they come out sooner:?:
Maybe they were patenting how this multiple-games could be played.
Grid with multiple solutions are common.
To use key(s) to set it up and have multiple ratings,
I guess, are really intriguing.:!::!:
