Yesterday someone asked me to help with the end-game of this local newspaper puzzle. I was pretty confident because I usually solve them without pm. Well, here I also saw quickly an X-Wing (and then another with the same eliminations), but failed to see how it would solve the puzzle. Usually these puzzles have an obvious pattern-based stte move, but sometimes they also have dud patterns to throw one off, so I dismissed the X-Wings as probable duds and kept looking for other solutions. It wasn't hard to find some, but I thought they weren't simple enough for that newspaper or the person I was helping.

At that point I was certain I'd missed some easy solution, but simply couldn't see it. I was obviously right, and didn't feel exactly proud of myself when I finally plugged this into Hodoku and saw it (My poor excuse: the original hand-written pm were not my own or even fully accurate. Also, it was quite an atypical ending for these puzzles, so I fell victim to my own assumptions.)
